Hi All,

Just changed the. Air filter and am not sure but think doesn't look to good. The one backside screw was missing and the other one loose, couldn't fix it myself. The other three were fine .

Attach a pic. What'd you think? Guess it was time for a change or?

I think I'd better go to a garage to get the two rear ones fixed.

Kind regards
Matthias

Thought the two years were over for a change. On your one at least a bit white shines through...:)

Yeh pretty dirty mate, how long since last change? No doubt your broken bolts letting crap in where it shouldnt be getting in to some extent.

To be fair to the OP, if your not confident with the spanners small jobs like oil and filter changes can seem a little daunting and often get put off until you can afford to pay someone else to do them.

Look how many posters can't find the turbo filter at the back of the engine and yet that has to be the easiest maintenance project on the car!

I keep putting off replacing the intercooler hose because I have read on here that the radiator end is difficult to get at. It is just starting to mark from rubbing on that fixing and I have bought the silicone one ready, so I will need to do it soon.

You're talking about the pre-filter. The white fabric that covers the sponge.

Fitting something like a K&N filter is effectively doing the same as removing the pre-filter element. Allowing more air to flow at the cost of less filtration.

Yup the pre filter as you call it but with it removed you have a normal filter with the pleats etc....why dont other replacement filters, for other vehicle's have this pre filter?

Does the hippo's get more dirty for some reason?

Yeah thought that. If the dealer really done it before I bought it then it 'd be two years ago but must check. Otherwise I thought LR would have done it last year but maybe also not. I thought that the missing bolts might not be the best and need to fix it quick i assume.

Yes mine probably for the missing/not tightened bolts.:)

Just shows you can not trust main dealer garages , not just land rover, they do as little as possible , say things have been done , when they have not , been there

I find that the dealerships are the worst.....they have set times for jobs, a service is probably allocated 30 mins.....so it gets rushed through......plus you will have the your trainies doing the easy stuff and not very well........

I stay away from dealerships.:)

Been there too.....

+1

where I used to work we serviced and maintained cars just out of warranty amongst the normal customers

the ex warranty cars had under-trays cable tied on , filters put in wrong, some that looked like hadent been done

the best one was a ford fiesta that had "just been serviced by ford " it came in for an oil leak in which the oil filter had rusted through creating a pinhole

you get what you pay for for £80 hour?

Yes. The air is drawn in from inside the wheel arch liner. So obviously dust and muck is able to get to the filter. More so if the inspection cover is missing.
And a diesel will always make the filter dirtier than an equivalent petrol engine.

The spanner monkeys in main stealers are almost always on bonus....

If a job comes in with a book time of 2hours and they do it in 1 hour they will get a bigger bonus than if they did it in 1 hour 30 mins, etc......

Is it any wonder jobs are rushed and not always done as well as they could be?

Air filter oft me v6. It's the one in the acoustic cover on top of the engine:

Unbelievable!

Here in Italy it all depends on the ones running the garage...but I know people being driven mad by the official mainteinance services not only as far as regular mainteinance is concerned, but also for more serious issues e.g. talking about the Qashqai with the Renault diesel engine which practically destroys by itself -garages saying they have done all they could while in truth they did nothing but waiting for the warranty to expire
