As anyone here bought one and just had to pay for services and not spend **** loads on repairs ? I realise there becoming an old car now so problems become more frequent.

I suppose I'm lucky with mine but then it is one of the latest ones on a 04 plate.

I got my Disco in Oct 2007 with 46,000 miles on the clock and in the last 4 and a half years I have covered 90,000 miles and only once has it not got me home. I have changed in that time the following:
Fuel Pump
Starter motor
FPR
Injector loom
fuel pipes from pump to filter
both metal plates in the rear wheel arches

Other than the above list it has had 2 tyres, regular oil and filter changes and brake pads and disc's . I have de-EGR and de-CAT along with a Stage 1 remap.

I've probely jinxed myself now and all hell will break loose on my way home from work this afternoon

I bought a kit of eBay to repair the starter motor. I bought mine late 2010. It's done 110k miles. Within the first month of owning it I had to have a new auto gearbox pump as it was leaking oil. I had the 3 amigos but that only was a dirty sensor. I've had new rocker cover gasket and the circle seal on front of engine new rocker breather pipe. I had to have a new hub on the rear as it was leaking. I was told if it was a disco 1 it would be a 50p seal but on the disco 2 it is a sealed unit :crazy: i am tempted to sell it but I won't get owt for it so can't see the point

Don't understand why you had to have a new rear "leaking" hub as there is an outer 50p rubber seal and the hub is inside the axle casing unless of course the hub was shot.

i have a t reg td5 disco , mined been trouble free for 3 years but this year things starting to play up, alternator , battery , rad, all been changed this year

I've had 3 or 4 TD5's now and none of them has ever broken and left me stranded.

I serviced them regularly and and adopted and 'preventative maintenance approach, so things got done before they broke, so they have been utterly reliable.

Not had to do too much, 1 injector loom replacement, discs and pads; can't think of anything else tbh off the top of my head.

since getting my TD5 in December have done:-

Fuel reg
Door mirrors and clips (heating didn't work)
two rear air bags (last owner fitted coils)
ride height sensor
ride height calibration
exhuast manifold (warped and blowing)
head lamp washer pump
sun roof (was nackered by last owner)
drive belt tentioner & belt
horns
tracking

jobs that need doing:-

new front brake calipers
new front brake disc's
new front brake pads
ACE pump (have pump from ebay just needs fitting)
ACE filter
ACE fluid (it's a bit mucky)
full service
battery

so the moral of the tale is don't buy a vehicle from Vulcan Vans in Doncaster, sold as safe and clean car, bloody nightmare so far..

But I did a lot of work on mine before you bought it off me! ;)
Actually I found the early model I had (was it S reg? Can't even remember!) pretty reliable BUT it did need a new SLABS ecu (3 amigos) and a new head. I found that as it reached ten years old it started to get other problems - corroded pipework for example, and stopped feeling reliable on the long European trips I was doing at the time. My feeling is it's an intrinsically reliable car, but all cars can start having problems at about that age (same true of my previous Disco).

Hi David, yes you're absolutely right. A well looked after (and I continued your care-loaded approach) TD5 can and is a reliable vehicle.

The trouble is that most owners do little or nothing in terms of maintenance until something breaks, then they complain that it's an unreliable car !!!!

Cheers

haha had mine about 4 months and have spent around £500 in parts after the warrenty jobs were fixed and i still have a few jobs to sort so ul need reasonably deep pockets to keep one "mint"

Ive had my td5 since November, £420 so far inc new rear air springs plus fitting and new elec front window mechanism plus fitting oh and that includes £100 at a LR stealer under warranty (which was bollox and complete waste of time) to be plugged in, etc, dint find the prob (air springs actually just changed them anyways prob solved :doh:) and now they are cold calling me every fookin week for my "overdue service" :multiply:

Still, wouldn't swap silverlandy....:lvheart-121:

i totally agree with this, but you could extend this to any car not just a Disco...

hence why i'm getting mine up to scratch, by undoing the lack of upkeep of the last owner..

Bought mine in Ocyober, Have done 11000 since then. Gave it a general service and missed the fuel filter which then had a hole in it and i lost quater of a tank till I relised there was something wrong. Had to fix rear door lock would not open and a leaking sunroof. all fixed not much at all, very happy with it.

Dont matter what you own.i had 2 terranos one a 96 the other an 02.am replacing a rear wheel cylinder on the 96 the first thing to go wrong in 3 years.the 02 i had for a year had new diesel pump,new clutch,new abs sensors, clutch master and slave cyl.then i had to buy a complete clutch pedal assy because of a small nylon bush cant be bought seperate.new fuel tank and fuel lines.then the rear inner wheel arches fell in holes with severe rust. So i bought the td5 for more reliability.

You most certainly could - it's just that a TD5 Disco is a lot more complicated than yer average family runabout.

And it's a Discovery thread:bounce::bounce::fighting2::flame:

Not bad, but tends to fail when the wife is in the Disco especially if close to home. Never failed on long journeys or abroad. However I have had to replace, from the front, the following:
Radiator;
MAF;
Injector harness;
ECU;
Injector seals and washers;
Radiator top hose;
Expansion tank;
Oil cooler x 2;
FPR;
Clutch and flywheel;
Wheel bearing and ABS sensor;
God knows how many rear air bags;
Both height sensors;
Fuel pump x 2;
Air bleed valve;

Those are the bits I can remember !
