How often does your “luxury car” break down?

I do not think that my 90 can be in any way classed as “luxury” though.

Alas, there are limited question spaces for a comprehensive question set.

So resultant statistics may be as much use as recent newspaper articles

I've had mine a week and nothing yet (fingers crossed). We all know it will happen at some point it really is just a matter of time.

ive had my 200tdi disco 5 years and never not been able to start and then drive home.....have had to replace a few bits though..... must be getting towards a couple of hundred quid in non service parts .....plus the anual weld

My 2004 BMW M3 has been on the back of a lorry three times in the past year, 1st for a £10 relay for the electronic gear box, 2nd for a failed alternator and 3rd for a puncture and having no spare and the gunk and compressor being totally useless. In 3 years my 1995 Defender has broken down precisely zero times

Mine has only stopped once in 3 years when it decided it didn't like diesel anymore and spat it all out over my drive. But it does seam to take a lot of preventative work to the tune of about a grand in the last 6 or 8 months but that did include a good service too

I agree and disagree, servicing and maintenance is very important on modern cars but at the same time the electronics can be prone to unannounced and annoying failures, we have almost perfected (I use the term perfected loosely) mechanical components in cars but the electrics arent at the same level

Got Peugeot partner 2510000 miles only a clutch cable caught me out and usual consumables ie pads disks but brake down no even when alternator went still drove around for half a day so broken down na belts don't snap unless left unattended.
electrics well out of anyone's controll really

did you get carried away on the zeros there mate or has it realy got 2.5 million miles with only brakes and a cable replaced

I'm gonna assume you meant 250K, if it's a diesel (being a van I'm guessing so) then that's not surprising, French diesels are about the only decent thing they do automotive wise, I'm gonna take a punt it's not high spec as french electrics really aren't very good at all... That said there are always exceptions and there can be very good 'rubbish' cars (i.e. French) and there can be terrible 'good' cars ('ze Germans)

So you aren't Skint as Usual after all

There goes the trip to Italy then.

I expect my Landy to break on a regular basis, but it's always an easy fix. All part on the fun, constant upgrading to get more reliability.
My Subaru TriBeCa has done 87,000 miles with zero failures, only normal services.
If I want to go anywhere I take the Landy, if I want to get home again I take the Subaru.
