How much play in steering wheel?

How much play should there be in the steering wheel? If I dry steer, it turns about 1-2cm with a clunking sound in each direction that can be felt in the steering wheel... is this normal?

yer and no, you will always get some play in the steering as there are so many joints, just start from your steering column down to the box then along you track rods while you get a mate to dry steer for you, all the parts are pittence, its just finding which one has the play in.

i just changed the track rod end it tightened up the streering big time
the balljoint was totally f**kd surprised it never fell off
