I have removed my cylinder head and notice all the pistons can rock a tiny bit in the bores. I presume a minute bit is ok but how much is too much?

I took off the head due to high oil use and lots of smelly smoke after I got water in the engine.

All the pistons are level and there is no up or down play.

When the oil filler cap was removed with engine running there was a lot of smoke chugging out the top. Is this normal?

Can't see any obvious leaks from the old gasket although it has left behind a lot of the old gasket on the block. Again I presume this is nothing unusual.

the top will rock a bit ,widest part of piston is the skirt, turn engine to put piston to bottom fel how much or is of a lip 10mm down ,where top ring reaches top of travel .the greatest wear will be on passenger side of engine near top

I don't think there was any play with pistons half way. I brought them to the top to check.

Good news then. :)

Have managed to loose one if the valve caps. I guess I will have to buy a set now. Valve seals were stuck on and needed a hammer and screwdriver to break them off. I think they needed changing.

Just got to get the gasket. The old one had 3 holes which I believe is the thickest so I guess the replacement should be the same.
