I have been recommended to add a small amount of petrol to the mix to clear the ****e out of my 2.25 diesel, how much would be correct?

wont veggie oil help clean the crap out, out of the lines anyway?

yes, it will.

@OP
I'd use a near empty tank, and not more than 5% petrol when it's warm outside, but without loading the engine (v<30mph ; no uphill or fast acceleration).
Risks: engine knock, too hot flame, exploding burn (vs slow burning (diesel) )

Personally, I'd use veggie oil or clean engine oil (or GB oil, or anything I dont need.) I usually just dump in the tank everything I dont need, as long as it's unused... (lots of metal in used GB oil for example)
Oh, and pack a spare fuel filter! :D

A good batch of proper biodiesel will help clean it all, partcularly if you stick 5-10% petrol in it.

You could always chuck a bit of injector cleaner in too if you like.

Maximum 'contamination' is 20% without causing damage - so effectively, as ong as you are below that figure, you should be fine!

Lorry driver usually pop a few pounds worth of petrol in to stop mould forming on the diesel of trucks that have intermittent use.

but that would leave you with no margin for gypsies peeing in the petrol tank of the petrol station...
