Hello there everyone, I'm after some help on making an offer on a defender
I've found a 1985 defender 90 2.5 diesel, apparently a genuine 87k, in a farm i work in, Unfortunately it's been abused for years and therefore needs a lot of work to get it up and going again
-All the bodywork is excellent for it's age
-Chassis isn't bad, the rear crossmember is dead though..will definatly needs replacing
-All three doors are a bit rotten and dont have locks/ rear door has no mechanisms what so ever
- the bulkhead is in good condition
- The interior isn't bad, foot wells replaced years ago and has all new lining in the back
- The major problem atm is that it wont start- It will bump start but there's no sign of life when turning the key, tried 2 batteries but i think there a bit dodgy- i dont see this much of a problem as i know its fixable
So the big Question- Does anyone have an idea of how much this beast might be worth?? :p
The owner thinks its dead for ever and will never be used again, but i think she's wrong and wont to save it
Just wondering as if i offer her something i would like a figure from people who know what they are talking about to work around
Many thanks, Sion

start with a silly 650 offer - go no higher than 1200

expect to spend another grand on repairs/test etc

ps, it's not a depender

Thanks for the quick replies, I'm thinking of offering £200 and not intending to pay any more than £500 for it, she is unaware it starts so i'm liking the £400 idea, i'l keep you posted on how well it goes, and hopefully i'l be on this site in no time asking for lots of help,
Sion

as if you say, she already has it in mind that it wont start and its dead forever, I think she will take the 200quid...

LOL, yep, no point in half measures ... If you want to give her a 'fair market price' £500+

.... if you want to rob her ask for diesel money to trailer it away ... then suck your breath in, offer £50 tops 'for scrap' and start to walk away ... ;)
