How much coolant?

I need to antifreeze after a split hose repair, now fine but charged only with water. I'd like to avoid draining the entire system, just partially drain and top up with concentrate, but need to know how much to add ... What's the capacity of the system?

unless your gonna drain the system then knowing the capacity s irrelevent.
Simply measure what you drain off and replace that quantity with anti freeze. simples.
Capacity about 5.5 or 6.6 litres, although thats a guess, cos Im guessng that all freelander engines are the same as urs, whish is also a guess.

So drain off a pint..... add a pint

I believe all FLs have the same size radiator so the total coolant is 7.5 litres and the recommended mix is 50%

I'm sure you can do the Maths.

That won't work. I need to drain off half the total and add the same in antifreeze concentrate to get a 50% mix. As the post says, at the moment it's pure water. But thanks for the estimate!

I was estimating because you dont even say which engine you have. and Haynes lists two different measures.

pint for pint wasnt a "figure" it was a simple way of suggesting you add what you take out.

If you want help and a straight answer please give the facts like engine would help.

You're right, I forgot to mention it's 1.8.

I appreciate your help, tho' I don't think you got why I want to know total capacity. Draining a random amount off then adding the same in coolant won't result in a 50% mix.
