Hi all,

I had my radiator burst last week on my DHSE so i'm now more than a little twitchy about and wetness under the car. I replaced the rad this weekend and have been out in it today, just got back.

Anyway I just shat myself because of the water dripping from underneath that the cooling system has lost it's cool again. But it's coming from further back, underneath the aircon condensate drain area and dripping down off the gearbox undertray.

I've tasted it (yes I really did, it's the only way to tell for sure) and it's definitely water, not coolant / water mix. I've tasted coolant / water and it's awfull !

So my question is how much of a puddle do you get from the aircon condensation off the evaporator on yours ? Mine seems like a lot more than usual today, but it is a bit more humid than normal outside.

Ta :)

Had the exact same experience several times, same reaction the first time. i.e nearly shat meself!

Anyway. to answer your question, it pours out a good bit of water. I don't know if this is a function of the drains requring a head of water to open them or what but when it drains, its a significant amount of water.

I think it it takes and condenses the water in the cab, and then dumps it outside, that's why its so dry when you use the A/C

I noticed mine this morning when I was trying to replace the middle muffler. Water was dripping out steadily and I had only started the car about 2 minutes previously. I also thought it was my coolant but the taste test ruled that out.

I noticed it in Florida the rangie I had on lease would pour out I actually contacted the lease company I thought it was knackered but they said it was a common thought but because of the climate so a little over here shod be ok !

The amount of water condensate depends on the relative humidity of the air. As warm moist air is drawn in over the aircon cooling element the water condenses out. As fresh air is constantly being drawn in, unless you have the system set to recirculate, there is a constant supply of warm moist air. A litre an hour of condensate is easily possible which makes quite a puddle underneath as the water leaks out fairly slowly from the drains.

Thanks for the reassurance. I was confident it wasn't coolant after my taste test but it did seem more of a puddle than normal.Just a humid day I guess.
