how many miles per full tank

hi how many miles do you get out of a full tank on your td4 many thanks dawn

I'm getting between 400 - 420 miles per tank, mainly driving around the streets. 420 is the most i've ever squeezed out of it, i'm usually just over the 400 miles mark

mmmm i am geting about 320 anyone know what the fault could be serviceing all up to date egr blanked,new bmw filter where he old blue toilet roll went,new filters all round its a manual commercial using 2 stroke,silcone hoses fitted
tyre presures all ok dont go over 60mph many thanks

Got a td4 manual, our 1st tank filled up, very mixed driving, 420 miles before the light come on today, well happy with that!

Best I've had so far is 596 miles from Shell Station, South Anderson Drive, Aberdeen to Folkstone Services. This is on Shell V-Power with 300ml of Tesco 2-stroke added. Next run I'm going to try adding Millers as well, so hope to get it over the magic 600.

TD4, auto-g/box, heavily laden with roof-box as well.

I was trying to reach Dover and make it over the 600 miles, but I chickened out near the end of the A20 motorway. Put in 63.42 litres so she must have been pretty dry.

It's dual carriageway or motorway all the way down so I just set the cruise control to 70mph (checked on the sat-nav) and wait for the scenery to go by.

It's 21 hour run as we stop for food, drink and a rest every 4 hours.

My mate in Grimsby says it's easy as it's 'downhill all the way from Scotland.'

Been doing it 3 or 4 times a year for over 20 years. Ten of them in Freelanders.

Edit: I am well aware that some folk wont believe this, but I wouldn't have believed it either a few years back before all the mods and work I've done on it.

2004 TD4 auto, last tank 60.33L, 292 miles gutted :-(

went to cornwall camping last year,roof box,boot and trailer full .from my house to campsite was 362miles made it on 1 tank,,,just

someone will correct me but thats about 30ish mpg ,its not that bad

my 2005 td4 with 105.000miles
i have fitted a liftkit,full mantec underbody,225,75r16 all terrains,nudge bar,sidebars,extra spotlights.
does 450 miles before the low fuel light comes on
p.s my journey to work was 11miles with my original 215,65r16 road tyres, however with the 225,75r16at fitted the same journey is only 10 miles away
so although my trip says i have done 450 miles on a tankfull i have actually done 500 mile (lovely)

Hi Dawn,

There's probably nothing wrong with your car at all - my long run the whole length of the country is most exceptional - we run for hours without ever changing gear or slowing down.

My daily commute is about 10 - 12 miles.

Most of the time in UK we use the car like everyone else - shopping, school runs and sitting in stop-go traffic in middle of town and so on. Then I'm lucky to get 350 from a tankfull.

If you can get 30+ on everyday local driving your doing well.

There is no way I would suggest to drastically alter the daily 'normal' driving style to get an extra few mpg.

I am very careful to get the tyre pressures right, and change the fuel filter more often than the service schedule. I don't use any supermarket fuel any more - not even with their special offers of 5p/litre off.

hi thanks for reply will c how i goes low fuel light not on yet it seems to be the last half of the tank that goes quikest when tank full then goses to half way i get 250miles to half a tank so u would think u would get 250miles to the other half of the tank

Freelander fuel gauges are not very accurate - the needle will drop quite quickly for the last quarter.

It's just a matter of getting to know it through experience.

No chance will you get another 250 from the 2nd half.

I reckon there to be about 8 litres left when the warning light comes on.

Don't wait - fill up asap and you'll find out. The book says 60 litres, but I reckon it's more like 62 or 63 in reality, but that's filling right to the brim.

Don't take chances - even with a 5 litre can in the back.

I've put in over 60 litres plenty of times.

LR probably err on the side of safety and want to encourage folks to fill up before running out.

I think the V6s have a bigger tank, on account of their greater thirst, allegedly.

oh ok so to work out me mpg do i just fill it now to full see how many litres it takes a divide it by the amount of miles i have covered

i have just got 36.7MPG from my 156k miler td4 auto, i do mixed driving of country roads motorway and town driving, i wanted to drive it from brimmed (see the fuel in the filler neck) to the fuel light came on. So it worked out 480 miles from a full tank, i've never noticed a difference in the fuel apart from my local Sainsburys which it is noticeably lower perfromance/increase noise. That tank was with Asda fuel and 300 ml of 2-stroke.

cremator - i've also got a 2004 td4 auto and during the winter the best i get is 290 per tank, this is all town stuff and 5am starts with heated screen, heated seats and fuel burner going, this all adds up to a measly 23 mpg but goes up to 27/28 mpg in the summer take a look in your handbook and you'll find the official figures are 25mpg around town for the auto so were not that far away in the winter and doing better than the book in the summer!!
