how many miles do you get to a full tank?

Did a round-trip to Swansea and back last week, with some running around whilst there.
Brimmed it before setting off and drove about 480 miles in total (mostly motorway) and still had about a 1/4 tank left when I got home.

Kinda surprised me to be honest.

Worst I have had is about 360 to the light coming on which is probably about 80L with a lot of town driving, bad weather, defrosting in the morning and getting stuck in traffic. Best I have had was a little over 450 with ¼ tank left but this was still a mix of driving conditions.

Mine is a 200TDi so may be a little different to a 300TDI, from what I have read you get a little better milage from a 200 due to not having an EGR valve.

I also have mud tyres on and tubular bumper which probably makes the aerodynamics even worse if that is possible! And am running on Biodiesel which make the MPG about 5% worse but since it only costs me 15p/L to make I don’t care that much

It dose interest me more for the range than the cost as I have a few long trips to do this summer and would like to take all my fuel with me rather than pay at the pump. I have been contemplating making a couple of auxiliary tanks to go behind the sills. I recon I could get 50L in each which would more than double the range.

I was under the impression that disco's had at least three different fuel tank sizes. I know way back in the pre a pound a litre days my mates disco cost him £90 to fill so there is a huge tank knocking about somewhere. Mine costs a ton to fill now which I guess sticks me somewhere around 75 litres? And I had heard that there was a tank between 75 and 100??

FWIW I get an indicated 400 miles on a tank that costs in the current market £105 to fill to the brim from utterly empty and at 50 indicated (that's as fast as I dare) I'm doing approx 57-58 so I am actually travelling further than the odo states :D

This is no use unless people list what they are driving!!
I reckon I get around 350ish from my 200tdi defender. Dont have the money to brim it very often to that is an educated guess!

Methinks you may be the retarded one Dr Evil - sure if it was referring to the OP's vehicle it's not much use but if it were referring to the replies it then becomes a very sensible one -

[I get 120 miles to a tank] that information is useless, BUT

[I get 120 miles to a tank on my 3.9 Disco]
That little bit more information is far more useful to someone with the engine size and vehicle listed...

I get 20 miles to a 100l tank ( 21ft RIB with a 3l V6 2stroke outboard)

I get 120 miles to a 15l tank on my Triumph

I wish I had a Cheiftan Tank.

But we're talking about a 300tdi disco

The OP's vehicle might be a Tdi, but mine ain't. and since the question was "how many miles do you get to a full tank?" I answered it and became part of the "we" you speak of. Therefore "we" are now talking about more vehicles than just the Tdi.

Yes but how does him knowing what a 3.9 petrol V8's MPG is help in working out wether or not his 300tdi is doing alright mpg wise ?

Its just telling him V8's are **** on fuel not wether or not his 300 is doing alright and getting what it should be

i can honestly say that i refilled my old 300tdi at around 600 miles twice on a 2000 mile journey, and before you say the mileage doesnt add up i drove from coventry to dover and filled up in dover after 200 miles then did 600 ish twice and then topped up in bulgaria for the final leg,was sticking to 55/60 mph all on open roads, never even tried to work out the mpg but its bloody brilliant after the 120 to empty from my v8 and if the egr blanking kit sitting on my coffee table makes it better then i'm not going to complain.

I can believe that, last summer I got about 580 out of a tank and was just hovering above the red zone, that was a tank that was purely motorway driving at about 65-70mph for most of it

No but it tells others who are reading the thread about the fuel economy of the V8 and if people search as asked then they are likely to come upon this thread when asking something along the lines of, oh, I dunno "how many miles do you get to a tank?"

Helping others - it's as much fun as putting others down and trying to show you're never wrong ;)

But the answer for the V8 is always SFA ;) or don't bother counting its not worth it. My mate could empty his in 80 miles  that was running 31" MT's with a lift etc though and it was a very battered
