How many dials do I need?

Hi folks,

So eventually I'm going to have to stop stalling and refit the dash to my 300tdi 110.

I've got a raptor dash all lined up with radio, a bunch of switches for extra lights, and USB sockets. I've also got some holes ready to be filled with dials once I get other extras fitted. So far I've picked up the following gauges:
Volt meter - main battery
Volt meter - secondary battery
Boost pressure gauge - will fit at inlet manifold
Temperature gauge - will fit at exhaust manifold (somewhere)

and thinking about the future:
fuel gauge - Auxiliary fuel tank left (still to be fitted)
fuel gauge - Auxiliary fuel tank right (still to be fitted)
Temp gauge - oil roamerdive (wish list!)

What else is there if I wanted to go completely over the top?

You don’t need all those. Oil pressure is missing and more important than your exhaust manifold temp, which is pointless unless you’ve heavily tweaked your engine, which is pointless.

Keep things simple. You don’t need fuel gauges in your aux tank as they dump into your main tank.

Don’t you want to fit the turbo boost Guage at the turbo?

I took my boost gauge from the core plug at the back of the inlet manifold, it measures boost at the manifold. Modified windscreen washer jet

Won't you need a clinometer and a gearbox temperature gauge for both main and transfer boxes, an outside temperature gauge, front and rear parking sensors, GPS screen, and a hands-free phone kit?
How's them for starters?

I would agree with the above sentiments. I have three extra gauges, in my raptor dash. and two of them are only to fill the holes in the face plate. the only extra i wanted was a clock! I have a boost gauge and a rev counter but neither are needed or used.

Get a series all you need is a temperature gauge and you can’t read that most of the time cos it all shakes around so much:D

Many years ago I had a mate who loved customising his mini. Eventually he fitted the main control panal from a helicopter in it, there must have been 20 or more gauges.

that's a good set of replies.

Landowner got the point about the boost pressure.

Payydg, oil pressure I haven't come across any articles on, thanks I'll look that up.

oldseadog has the idea - how nuts can you go?

thanks dag019, I'd forgotten about the rev counter, I've one of those in a box somewhere I think.
