How low can I get my Disco?

No before you ask, i'm not on about lowering the suspension the way you think....

I'm trying to work out if I can manage to squeeze my Disco into a regular council garage by way of temporarily removing some height.

Now, the reason behind this is that the MOT and tax have run out and I need it moved from its present storage space.

Ideas so far are to remove the air from the tyres, its on a 2"lift with 33's so does anyone think it would be possible to strap the axles up to the chassis to compress the suspension?

What about any other (sensible) ideas?

Ta :clap2:

Edit: I'm going out today with a tape measure to measure both the Disco and the garage, I cant see it happening to be honest but no harm in trying!

What you need is the bases of 4 supermarket cages, take the wheels off the disco and lower the disco onto the bases. You'll find you can move the car quite easily. Just make sure the ground outside is level outside, otherwise you'll be chasing it down the road.

I was thinking about that actually, I deliver frozen food in those cages so might have to see if they have a few duff ones laying around.

Drop a set of standard wheels on for now. That'll drop you straight away.

If I had some I would try that, I still doubt it'll get quite as low as needed though.

I would've said let most of the air out of the tyres, get the thing into the garage, and then re-inflate them again.

Using sliding dollies on each hub is liable to end up making you look like Frank Spencer. If there is the slightest incline, you could find yourself in a world of pain!

If you do go down that road though (and it will be quite literally go down the road, probably) do make sure a mate is there to film it all so we can all have a bloody good laugh afterwards. :D

It does indeed sound like a comedy script. 2 tonnes of disco on sixteen tiny wheels with no steering or brakes.

Please please video it. :clap2:

Take the springs out, roll in on bump stops. Jobs a good'en. Probably less eventful than your Carry On Storing script.

few scaffold boards layed each side will stop it rolling very far and should avert any drama's :)

You're joking! :D

It'd probably just collect the boards and pretty much anything else lighter than a transit van that happened to be in its way as it piled its way down the hill towards the local fluffy kitten sanctury. Either way, you'd not be popular.

Using dollies to move vehicles across anything other than what is guaranteed to be a perfectly level surface is just a bone idea. It may well work out, but you're playing with fire.

God, it would make for great viewing though!

Thanks for all your suggestions!

I don't have the time and money to source steel wheels due to being unemployed at the moment, this is partly the reason why it's off the road with the dreaded HGF.

Modifying the garage isn't an option as I think the council wouldn't be very happy lol

I was supposed to have a measure up yesterday to see how much room I have to play with, the misses and boy were I'll so didn't get the chance :(

there's got to be a few folks round your way with some rough old landrover wheels with scrap tyres on them

i've thrown some in the scrap and given a couple away in the past and i've only had landrovers four years
