Just got me fender, so tomorrow, first job tommorow is a full on fluids change, everything, except the coolant, I know he only did it a month or so ago when the P-gasket was done.

So, first time, Oil, Filters, transfer box, gearbox, and diffs (the swivels have moly grease in them) how long?

Don't forget to make sure you undo the filler plugs BEFORE you drain anything ... Some people find that one out the hard way!

cheers, wouldn't have occurred to me to do that, may I ask why? air lock doesn't let it drain, or just if seized in, you can still drive it cos its got oil in??

Yes ... to both ;)

They (engine, gearbox, transfer box, diffs) will drain .. eventually, but can take ages and if there has been issues undoing the filler also allows any fumes out too. When empty they will break if used.

Not so many worries when changing coolant, power steering, clutch and brake fluids 'cos they have caps so should be easier to undo .. but my clutch master cylinder cap broke when I changed it first time!

Did full change of mine 2 days ago. Took me about 21/2 hours with ciggy and tea breaks. Did it on the front drive with no jack available. Between the 2 diffs, gearbox and transfer box I took out a total of about 3 litres of fluids!!! Needless to say I put in considerably more. The gearbox is now sweet (for Land Rover values of sweet) with no crunch between 1st and 2nd, and all whines have vanished.

Some of the drain/level plugs needed a fair amount of persuasion and you will need a torx 50 for the gearbox level plug. All in all, a fairly easy exercise. Fluids are expensive but the results are well worth it.

How often would you guys advise changing the oils in the
1. Diff's
2. Transfer case
3. gear box ?

Thanks.

Why do you need to know?? Are you having a race with somebody!! :D:D:D
Just make a note of the time when you start the job and another when you've finished, then you'll know haw long it took you. ;)

Because, I don't want to starting the job, thinking it'll take me say hour and a half, when in reality fill plugs are inaccessible and it takes 4... was just after a ballpark figure.

nobody expects the Spanish inquisition:rolleyes:
