How long should heated screen take

i invested in a heated screen a year ago having it fitted at a specialist LR place. Didn't get chance to test it out much later winter but found it took a good few minutes to clear condensation in morning and softened frost in a couple of minutes so it could be wiped off. I used a Hyundai hire car recently and the heated screen cleared mist instantly. How good should the heated screen be? Is mine working properly?
 
From memory mine clears condensation within a minute and ice can be wiped off after no more than a couple of minutes.
It is because of the speed in which it clears that I have never thought about fitting a timer relay, I can turn my screen off even before I have driven off the drive. I start the vehicle, wait 10-seconds before turning the screen on, step outside and wipe the side windows, get back in, turn the screen off and drive away.
Had them on the 90 for about 14-years and wouldn't be without one.

Is yours wired in correctly?
Using the incorrect cable & switchgear can result in voltage drop which means that (apart from the risk of electrical breakdown) the screen will always be operating at lower than the required voltage.
 
I'm sure even if it was working right before it isn't now. After driving about 3 minutes the other morning it was clearing mist....but not uniformly... it did seem more around the vents and probably just a bit of normal demisting.

Think I'll have to get back onto to specialist. They must have fitted proper wiring for the job from a proper kit. They are a well known long standing place.
Maybe just a loose connection or something, but think I'll let them work it out.

On heavy ice they do take some time, but condensation should be pretty quick maybe a couple of hundred yards driving.

There are some videos of series motors clearing ice on youtube, maybe the same for coilers?

Ive got one on my series and have to say its brilliant at keeping the damp/condensation at bay.
 
The one on my Mondeo clears ice in about a minute. At least it did! The drivers side has stopped working, which is a common fault with some of the Ford ones. The wiper mechanism clips the wire and the repetitive knocking eventually snaps the wire. I need to take the cover assembly off and solder it up. Getting a few frost here now :rolleyes: Not got the same motivation to work on the Mondeo though :)
 
never timed it but if iced up start car turn on screen by the time I've scraped the other 3 windows (Rear and side) the front is ready a can use the wiper.
