Obviously, the life of a clutch is dependent on how the landy is driven, but has anyone got any views as to how long a clutch should last.

Also, changing a clutch is beyond my mechanical capability, so what is an independant garage charging for a clutch change nowadays?

any views much appreciated

cheers

Well as you say it depends who's driving - e.g. if its school run mum who slips it on every hill and revs away everytime she takes off then not that long.

Our 300tdi disco clutch went for about 85000miles before the fork collasped - and the clutch was not showing any signs of slipping so I would say you could get more than 100k out of one anyway.

The way to drive one of these is to give it really very little revs until the
clutch is fully up then give it throttle.

160,000 km and there is a distinctive squal from the clutch area when cold
and truck is cold as I let the clutch out to pull away....thinking the throw-out bearing is going to the wayside. Also, the meager goo-sealant applied by the factory when putting the beast together is rotting away by the mile - got a dozen leaks of tranny fluid around the x-fer connection area.
