How long should a late type fuel cooler last?

Hi,

I've been slowly renewing bits and pieces on my TD5 defender and have came to do all the rubber coolant hoses, radiator, waterpump and thermostat since most of this is now 20 years old and as I plan on an alive VNT turbo, I wanted the cooling to be working tip top before I put anymore stress to the system.

Whilst doing this, I realize that the only thing I am not replacing is the fuel cooler (I have the later square type) and the engine oil cooler in terms of the coolant system. My fuel cooler appears to work fine and have no visible leaks and no general coolant loss (although the coolant pipe that passes underneath seems corroded, not sure if there's an invisible small leak from the cooler or if it was from something else).

So my question is should I just replace it whist doing all this or not? Is the cooler suppose to last the lifetime of the vehicle?

Going by the internet, I believe the early cylindrical type fails a lot but the later square type seems to be fine and looking at the design there doesn't seem to be obvious weaknesses in the design. So just want to get some opinions on this.

Thanks

Hi, no offence please but It's a kind of silly question cos that square cooler is a 100% inoxidable metal bit so it will last exactly untill fails which can be for eternity or not like any metal radiator... some of them are failing in time others not but it's not supposed to be replaced as long as it's leakless ;)
