How legit is owning one of these?

Obviously I know it's wrong but I've been offered two of these in the past and now someone's offered me one in exchange for my truck, tempted just to get back into landy's.

1970 tax exempt Land Rover, Range Rover chassis with coil springs, 110" later Defender body, 300 Tdi engine.

I have checked details out with DVLA and it's a 1970 low mileage Land Rover with MOT history.

There is absolutely nothing from 1970 left other than a V5!
Is this legit and no chance of coming unstuck? will your insurance pay out if you have an accident?
Can you get away with driving one for years and years without hassle? Value, is there any or is it just a gamble owning one.

I'm guessing subjects been done to death but I've not seen one recently, some of you guys might own one, I don't know.
Thoughts please, I do love my truck and have a lot of money tied up in her to risk losing the lot [actually can't afford to lose the lot:oops:] but obviously the thought of owning a tax exempt 110" defender did get my interest.

Opinions appreciated

Insurance company will want to know about all of the modifications from factory spec otherwise they could refuse any claims. Value will be the higher of the vehicle dismantled for spare parts or scrap value (in my humble opinion).

Whats the fascination with tax exempt? We pay beggar all worth of tax in this country as it is for the roads and still some one thinks cheating the tax man of £245 is worth the hassle.

Leave it alone, a bump at the traffic lights and you're in deep trouble.

If you want a Defender then save up/take out a loan and buy one.

'Oh yes, the poor hard-done-by taxman  Actually the current rate is £255 & VED revenue is not spent on the roads anyway. At current prices 245 quid buys around 188 litres of unleaded. I pay the VED & for 2k miles a year driving in & out of potholes don't consider it value for money.

It’s not the road tax it’s the historic vehicle status and the £100 a year insurance that’s attractive.
Plus now the MOT exemption.
I consider my series to be free motoring as it costs next to nothing to run on the short journeys I take it on.

As you say, kill a child in a ringer and not only are you going down you probably losing your house as well. Your insurance company will simply walk away as that isn’t the car they insured.

Considering I used to pay €2400 in the year 10X what I pay now, I merely complain about the state of the roads, not the cost, if they put £100 a year on road tax it's still cheap.

My main gripe is any car on the road paying less than £245 (of which there are a lot!!!) And EVs that pay £0, £245 should be the benchmark!!!

A passenger carrying D1 would cost Belgium €900/yr
Netherlands €2400/yr
Germany €950/yr
Ireland €1200/yr

If you feel hard done by, then think about how those folk feel!!!
