hello, drove my 2.5 today for the first time,i,m very happy with it but i,ve heard horror storys about overheating.it took about about a mile for the needle to hit the middle of the gauge and in slow traffixc crept up to 1 line past middle,so how hot should these run.cheers

They should get up to bang on 12 o'clock normal / motorway running and may creep up to 1 o'clock when heavy towing / hot day / large incline etc. I used to tow a 21' Hobby back and forward to Scotland and it hardly ever used to move from 12 o'clock. If it regularly goes above that, you may have a problem.

mine used to sit around quarter of the way up the gauge untill i fitted an aftermarket pump from unipart, now it sits in the middle and sometimes around 3/4 up the gauge if i sit at top speed

As said, guage should be at 12 oclock normally. Mine also only goes up in hot waether when towing uphill. I suggest you keep a close eye on it, could be the viscous fan is a bit tired, or the water pump has shed some fins off the impeller, or perhaps the thermostat is no opening fully. There are other more serious possibilities if none of those things are faulty.

Oh and welcome to the madhouse.

Mine was always at 12 o'c until last weekend when the top hose burst, then it took a trip into the red!

After replacing the top hose it now sits below 12 o'c which i know isn't right, so I suspect the thermostat or water pump is playing up and will replace both this weekend.

mine sits at 12 bout when giving it a boot full for a while it will go to top of the white part of the scale once i back off it only takes a min or so to drop back to 12
