It seems that the Isle of Wight is devoid of etch primer. I have now tried 3 places and have been met with 2 blank looks and the option to purchase either Hammerite or a can of multi-purpose spray primer.

At one place that I would have thought would sell the stuff, I was told that they don't make it anymore as there is no need because the new yacht paint don't need it - are no boats made out of Ali anymore??

I guess I could use International 2-Pack Yacht Paint if I wanted to, but I don't - I want bloody etch primer - its a Defender, not a bloody yacht!

Of course I could order some from Halfords Online - at £12.99 a can - but I wanted it for this weekend, not 3 weeks March.

I have not as yet, as both are in Newport and there is a Festival this weekend, so its out of bounds.
 
Bembridge - I'm not too worried, just annoyed with not being able to get on as much as I wanted to. I didn't want to strip the thing right down without being able to get a coat of something on it before Monday, when I'm back at work...

Ok in that case have you tried IOW autoparts in Ryde?

I think they're on summit like millwall or millward rd.
 
Yes and they don't.
And why did I buy a 4" Grinder? Was it so I can spend hours looking for discs / sanding pads to fit the damn thing?
 
Never mind - I can do the side steps as have lots of red oxide - cheers anyway!

I have painted my bonnet with red oxide only coz I found some in the garage

Is it a good primer for alloy ? (dont know owt about paint)
And what paint should not be painted on it,
