Probably about time this topic made the rounds. I am about to drive from Switzerland to the UK (Annual pilgrimage to Billing). I will be monitoring my diesel usage, but would like a comparison on other 300 TDi discos.

On an average tank I get anywhere between 550 and 600 miles.

On a run (constant 60/70mph like) I can get around 650/just over till the light comes on.

It'll be nice if i can get the same sort of figures from mine for Billing :D ........... might not be quite so good though due to lift kit, mud terrains and tubular bumper/steering guard etc (less aerodiwotsit)

Travelling up from near Penzance in pastyland :)

Heh yeah, me disco is on road tyres and I don't carry much around in the boot so I get pretty good mpg. When I put the mt's on it and have all the kit in the boot its takes a hammering :)

I go along with TheMunster's figures. I do a number of trips a year down to England from the North of Scotland, generally a 1200-1300 mile round trip and on my last trip the best return I got was 36.28 to the gallon. Pretty damned good I'd say for a car of it's size. However I will say I am a 55-60mph man myself, never in a hurry if you get my drift.

On a run I get between 35 and 37.7mpg (best ever), cruising at about 60-65mph, comfortable, not breaking the law and no need to keep your eyes peeled for speed cameras.

Cheers
Dave

When cruising at about 65mph, over 600mls down to the low fuel light, but I do fill her right up til I see the liquid, each time.

I reckon to average, at that speed about 36mpg.

Yep, nigh on 600 for me as well. De cat pipe egr'd and pumps tweaked. All tyre pressure at 38 and I do a fair bit of round town as well.

My 300 tdi is on average 200 miles better per tank full than my td5 auto thing. Its much nicer but than the 300 but you don't half pay for it!

Any probs with the mot with the cat off, and have you honestly found it goes better. And what year is yours.

Apparently if you're egr is gone the emissions are better so thats what let you take out the Cat (actually particulate filter). Mine has been through two mot's in different garages since its been done and passed both on emissions - its the body rot you got to watch for! My pumps been tweaked as well and I have never had to wind it back to get a pass either. The beauty of these mods is i never have to rev the old girl hard even when towing 3.5 ton! 2500rpm and she pulls like a train. This means when you're taking it steady you cruise around town in fourth on a whiff of throttle. Add this to 38 psi tyre pressure and reading the road ahead you will get 600 miles no problem. if you're not then there may be a reason why not, like sticking brakes or blocked air filter.

I run all terrain bfgs and do 70 on the mway and it always returns good mpg at 14 years old and 200k. I also run it mainly on biodiesel which help on reducing emissions even further.

Thanks for that:)

Did 650 mile round trip at weekend, got 580mls from full to fuel light coming on. Had wheel balancing probs (May do a seperate post on this! :) ) so did a lot of 70 - 80mph cruising to get past the wobble! A bit faster than I meant to go but otherwise I had to keep it to about 55mph which I found a tad to slow for the motorway.

Well now that my b/band is finally working i can post a reply :p

637 miles on a run (Billing) and FULLY loaded ............ trust me it was well packed in

Also on the way home we had to leave the bonnet luggage netting and recovery strops on as i was carrying out a mercy mission for a good friend back in pastyland which took up extra boot room  ........ so the MPG would have taken a hit there too

That result was whilst running a 50/50ish mix of veg oil and doosel ;)

Not 3 bad really ............ better than i expected anyways :D

Oh !!!!:(

Just done 350 on a tank!! I thought it was bad!! I almost want my TD back, almost!
Its got insa mt tyres, 2" lift and light bar. Should it really be that bad?
Its a 94 disco 300TDi
I'm not sure whether it would have a EGR?
I've just cleaned out the sedimentor and that wasn't too bad!
Any help would really be gratefully received. Really!!!

LRO quotes 28.5 on a disco 200tdi and 29.6 on a 300tdi 110 on their real world route (no figures for disco 300 tdi)

On a recent run to The Highlands and some touring and the journey back home, about two thousand miles in total, my 300TDi averaged 38mpg. That's constant speed of 55mph on main roads, free wheeling into bends and junctions, light acceleration and above all else, a grin on my face from the pleasure of driving the beast :D :D
Normal driving including a lot of short journeys it returns about 35mpg, and I recon for a two ton brick that aint bad at all.
Rob.......loves his Disco.

I generally get about 450 miles out of my 300Tdi tank. Fortunatly most of my driving does include a fair amount of time at 60 but I have to slow, stop and start quite often through towns and villages in the area.
