how far can you tow a defender

Hi all
Is there a limit on how far you can tow a defender? Or do you have to take the props off any help will be a great help.

If you're towing with all 4 wheels on the ground - as far as you like.
You'll be breaking the law though.

Whys that trewy????

You're only allowed to tow a broken down vehicle (with a rope) to the nearest place of safety.

nope, because it is, effectively, an unbraked trailer of over 750Kg.
it needs to go on a dolly with linked brakes (in which case the rear prop will have to be removed), a braked trailer or a flat-bed.

surley you would have someone in it steering and covering the brakes???????

yes, but the brakes aren't linked to the towing vehicle, therefore from a legal point of view, it's an unbraked trailer.

so how some people get away with using an a-frame

There is a system available that links the brakes of a towing vehicle to the one behind on an A Frame. Expensive though and I've only ever seen one in use.
There is one French Micro-car (forget what it's called) that weighs less than 750Kg and can therefore legally be towed on an A Frame.
Everyone else is, technically, breaking the law.

Same way as people get away with exceeding speed limits. Just because people get away with it doesn't mean it's legal.

I believe you also need a license to tow over 750kg treworgey will correct me

yes, if you took your test after 1st Jan 1997.
