How far can you go?

How possible is green laning with a standerd disco, i want have a go but need to bring the funds back befor i modify.

Better to ask this in the Greenlaning section, but you should be able to manage pretty much most of the byways with a standard Disco. Decent recovery points are a must. Don't go out alone, until you really know the lane and have a bit of back-up.
All terrain or mud tyres will get you further.

You will get further than you think.....with a set of MTs and you will surprise yourself.

Starting standard is the best way to do it. You will learn to read the ground ahead of you and you will learn what the vehicle can do.

The easiest n cheapest mod is to increase ground clearance by having a word with the front valance.The other essential mod is recovery points.Then take it out on std gear.it will surprise you.

Seriously ... as far as you like! As Andy says he got his standard Disco down Stanage, up Pindale etc etc and he's been out with me on more 'normal' muddyish green lanes with some minor ruts and didn't need recovering ...

As has been said, if you're new to it don't go alone. Get some AT or MT style tyres, recovery points and a rope as bare minimum and you can go far ....

us in a standard disco. this is pretty much its limit!!!

when they wanted to promote the rangie back in 1970, they gave a bunch of them to the Royal engineers (I think) and sent them accross the previousely undriven Darian Gap in the Jungles of Central America.
the motors, apart from addition of a winch and roof-rack, and removal of rear seats, were otherwise as show-room spec.
Since then all the Camel Trophy and G4 expedition vehicles have been essentially show-room 'standard' apart from accessories from the LR catalogue.
Sort of suggests you shouldn't have to do ANYTHING to a Landy, really, to take it down what ARE, despite the lack of Macaddam, still Her Magesties Highways! here in Britain!
As for tyres; suggestion Muds are 'useful' is true; but starting out, I advise sticking to the All Terrains; reason being that muds in the slippy stuff tend to grip rather too well, and get you further into trouble before you realise it....... AT's are a better training tool; they dont have as much capability, but then starting out, neither will you, so you'll find the limit of traction sooner, and start learning how to drive for traction, which when you have some experience, you can exploit on Muds, getting you even further, and hopefully not into trouble!

Er, no they added 750 Firestone SATs and cut the wheel archs......then proceeded to drag the RR thru the jungle by their winchs.

I was leaving the relience they had on the winches 'implied'!

And neglecting to mention that they had a battered SII 109 punch a hole through the brush for them!

Still, does give an idea of how extreme the terrain you can tackle without extreme mods is.....
