How easy is it to get into off roading?

Hi guys,

I am yet again thinking about buying a Land Rover. I want to take up off roading as a hobby. Only problem is that I'm not sure how to go about it.

I live in Devon. Are there off roading events held throughout this part of the country often? If so, how do I get involved?

Also, this may be a silly question, but is it illegal to have fun on banks on the side of the road etc? I often see a lot of disused grass terrain near where I live. That said, if someone drove by and saw a Land Rover with one wheel high in the air, I think it would raise a few eyebrows. (I'm sure some would even think there had been an accident, as it's not something most people see on a daily basis.) Basically, I'm not too sure about it as far as ethics are concerned.

Any advice/thoughts would be appreciated.

Cheers

Rich

Yes it is.

There's a couple of pay n play sites near you - one at Haldon and one near trago mills at heathfield - that one will even hire you a landy to take off road.
have a search - it's been covered on here recently.

how it happened to me was, brought a disco, found a few lanes enjoyed that wanted more so read a million threads on here so you got some idea whats going on, buy some mud tyres, went to newark and went round the off road course, spent all me money on bits when there and thats it keep an eye on a few forums so you know when people are out and about on p&p ect and just join them,

only drive on public rights of way, if you are unsure ask
