How does your Landrover drive ?

Land Rovers have always been relatively utilitarian and agricultural so - odds on - yes, the MG would've been more refined even at that time.

Mine drives quite well when all the tyres are pumped up

Really struggling to find a 'nice' one of any kind for my 4k budget.... I do appreciate it wont drive like an modern car.. but had hoped for better than I have sampled.. maybe I will just have to save up more money for my 'new toy' if I want something a bit more that dross!!

My freelander drives amazingly! smooth, comfortable, fast, reliable, stunningly designed for the off road experience and with all the modern luxury's such as wheel, windows and a steering wheel!! there's nothing better on the road!!! P.s Sorry for quoting common knowledge... y'know

Its the most masculine thing on the road, how can it be gay?

A Series shouldn't drive too badly. If it wanders, there's a problem with the steering - the box can be adjusted, as can the tracking. Off road tyres will feel vague on the road. The gearbox takes a bit of getting used to, especially the older non synchro box as you have to double declutch, but it's fine when you do.
It won't be as fast as an MG (especially the tuned BGTV8 my neighbour had!), nor will it handle the same - but you can't expect a Landy to compete with a sports car - until it snows!

I thought trucks were the most masculine thing on the road...

If you are looking to change to something more masculine than the freelander may I suggest

Just look at it like this......back in the day an MG midget was a fast car compared to a series,so that's like comparing an impretza to a 90 these days.
The good thing about owning and driving a series is that you learn (or remember)how to drive and not just turn the key go

There's nowt wrong with Tratters, proper mans motor

But you wouldn't know owt about that would you fella

If its a toy and you got 4k to spend,why not buy a reasonable one for half that and do it up your self. Series landy are easy to work,as long as the bolts come out

My old S3 used to wander a tad, even with new suspension and wheel bearings .. I think every joint in the steering had 'play' .. the missus drove it once, couldn't keep it straight, constantly over-correcting instead of just letting it wander a little.

Get used to it, or keep replacing things and regularly maintaining it .. when properly maintained they are wonderful and can be precise, well, as precise as a vehicle that has so many steering and suspension linkages, coupled to high tyre walls and off-road tread patterns.

If you want precision driving in a motor, don't get a series .. but if you do, you'll love it anyway!!

Well I will just have too keep looking & driving, the 2a I took out yesterday I think put me off as it just seemed 'tatty' drove like a small green skip went about 30mph, no freewheeling hubs and exhaust sounded like it was blowing from manifold as it had no power....

I keep following thiefbay.. and there seems like there may be the odd one out there that is 'genuine' and probably good but the majority are just hopless with adverts written by estate agents!! Joined the forums so that hopefully I would gain a bit more indide knowledge & you guys might be able to point me in the direction of a 'goodish' one
