how come there's little sign of oil on anything?
there is its that muddy brown stuff, you know as well as i do water will mark the bearings quite quickly if oils not replaced ,though you have to add ,if bearings been replaced whether preload was correct
there is some sign of goo on the inboard side of seal, tho would expect a lot more on output flange![]()
yes that fair enough you wouldnt notice anything apart from some backlash but bearing failure is differentMine went suddenly with no warning whatsoever. No noises or anything. When I took the old one out I found that a pin holding one of the wheels in place had sheared

Not in my case. Oil level was fine and I don't use it off-road, only for daily driving so it certainly wasn't excessive traction or shock. Had coped fine for 26 or so years so can't complain
a small diameter shaft snapping is different to bearing failure

I've had the input fail 3 or 4 times now and always had some tel tale sign, but this was not even 5 miles from squeak to dead,
