How do I get started

Just joined the forum and I am a new owner of a Defender 90. I am looking to do some green laning in Norfolk (where I live) and would like to meet up with others who are interested in doing the same. Not done it before so I need someone to show me the ropes. I have just joined my local club, but they have nothing planned for a month or two and I would like to do something sooner. Can anyone help?

You could buy a map showing all green lanes of your area,

I am near Dereham so not too far from Wisbech. Will get a map, but thought it best to double up with someone for the first outing. Anyone interested?

You are on. What do I need in terms of prepping the Landy? Some say steering guard, snorkel, winch, rope etc. The steering guard is next on the list as my Defender has very little by way of protection. My money has been spent on finishing things off as the previous owner was in the midst of a rebuild. Everything on that front is done, galvanised chassis, full service, etc.

deff a steering gard and rope with recovery points no need for a snorkel and winch as i cant see the point in spending loads of money on your motor only to submerge it in more that 600mm of water how about a mild outing when the wedding is on any one else up for it ???

Just to add onto this, you should definitely carry at least one tow rope (not the 2T crap from car shops) min. 5T, preferably more, together with some rated shackles (3.25T should do fine). If the lanes aren't too rough then a steering guard if not always needed, but one thing that is most beneficial is decent tyres.

The way this weather is going Mud tyres won't be needed! A good set of ATs should be enough for most lanes though. There is a very popular school of thought that says that if you really need heavy duty Mud tyres to drive the lane then perhaps it shouldn't be driven...

All subjective of course.

Thanks for the advice, will go for a steering guard and some tough rope! Ade I will be in touch, not sure I will have everything fitted for the 29th, but will let you know. Need to order a steering guard, any recommendations.
