Hi,

I've a 1987 Defender/90 and want to know what gearbox I've got.

It started life as a Turbo Diesel 2.5 and at some point since then it had an engine conversion to a Discovery 200tdi. If truth be told I think it was a bit of a bodge job but after various headaches it now works pretty well (although none of the air intakes inside the engine are connected to anything other than open ended long rubber hoses but I don't let that worry me).

It recently had a load of stuff done to it (new fuel tank amongst the more expensive) and on the report afterwards it noted that I had at least 6 bolts from engine to bell housing on the gearbox missing. So I wondered if maybe this means that it's a square peg into a round hole type affair?

Any tips anyone can give me?

(PS: I don't think that the bolts being missing are necessarily a bad thing - just not perfect - as they've clearly been missing for years over which it's travelled tens of thousands of miles).

you should have a 50a lt77 as fitted to 2.5 td, disco 200 tdi has different bolt spacing for some studs ,but you will have more fitted thans needed

Story of my life.

Ta!

if you did want to make it perfect you could either remove the engine or gearbox and fit an older 19j or N/A flywheel housing to your 200tdi engine , its just a bolt on job , alternatively you could drill holes and tap them into the current housing which may be able to be done with no major work but don't quote me on that as im not 100% sure
