How can I tell what engine management I have

My Disco is 95 300TDI, I have EGR but I have no air valve on the air pipe from filter to turbo, I do have a electro/pneumatic control on the NS side inner wing which controls the EGR, and a box with wires coming out of it on the passenger footwell behind the glove box, is this EGR control or do I have ECU, I can find no sensors for throttle position etc

hi, do you mean is it the edc or older type system?
mine is a 1994 and the older type. if yours is the edc type you will have a wire to 1 of the injectors i believe?

if you dont have an electronic injector pump then you have no engine managment system just the EGR system and if you get some black smoke when running i would be looking at getting rid of that

i too would like to know what i've got, mine has got a square box between the air filter and turbo (maf i presume?) mine has a cable going to the injection pump from the cruise control and a cable from the pedal to the cruise. i heard that you can only remap them if its got a fly-by-wire rather than a cable throttle but where the sensor is i dont know.

dont no about remaping a 300tdi but its a lot easter to tweak a pump thats cable controled

if you have got a mass meter on the intake pipe and a cable controled injector pumpe than it sounds like some one has removed the ecu control pump and fitted a ""propper"" pump but never had dealings with a 300 with cruse control

Many thanks for the replies so far, it would appear that my 95 300tdi has EGR only, thank god, It's' a 3 door no frills Disco, no ABS either, or luxuries like air con or cruise control, it would also appear I have a wiring loom for everything there is lots of cables that go nowhere, just empty

Pete , get rid of the egr .Everyone agrees they are a waste of time. The kit is only a few quid and you may find you get a few more mpg's from it.Do a search ,loads of info on here. ;)

Blanked the EGR the other day with a blank inserted between the flanges of the flexible pipe from the EGR and the manifold inlet, I was then trying to sort the requirements for removing the complete EGR system, and hence the engine management question, I will remove the EGR complete when I remove pipework, intercooler and inlet ,manifold for cleaning, thick with black oil deposits I assume from the EGR system :(

Mine is a Manual 1997 300TDI
How can I tell what I have,Its got the valve at the front left hand side near the filter,On the injector pump its got the black box covering the stop solenoid(with three wires)also on the top looks like a throttle position sensor.
Also on top of the head its got the coolant sensor.
Cheers

I think I'm right in saying that if it has a Mass Air Flow meter (4"x4" square box) in the air pipe between the filter box and the turbo, it has an engine management system, called EDC.
