Sorry if this has already been covered, did a search but couldn't find what I'm looking for.
Am in the process of restoring a broken disco (will update the thread when I finally get the time!) After I finish the task of chopping out all the rust and welding in the new I am planning on painting the entire underside with a rust preventative. Any reccomendations for particular magic brew? Hamerite??
Was thinking of buying 10L hammerite and painting the floorplan, sills, axles, inner arches etc and then applying waxoyl over the top. My only concern is the potential for poor intercoat adhesion (waxoyl delaminating then holding water between the layers).
This MUST have been covered before?!!!

for ever keep it out of oxygen, water vapour, and heat, o and u must have zero humidity with that it shud last forever o and must be stored inside in a heated dehumidified garage with blankets and, perfectly clean no dust

So, general purpoise hammerite all over with a squiz of acf50 over the top, and I guess the acf will need reapplying every 6months or so..

I use ACF50 and it lasts all winter on my bikes...
just dont wash it, if you wash.. its gone.

On the bikes I usually spray at start of winter and then leave it on, only wash the bike back in spring.
it's good stuff ACF50

I used Karust, followed by a couple of coats of zinc rich primer, followed by a couple of coats of hammorite, followed by two wax-oiling sessions.

I did this around Christmas / New Year, (6-7 months ago). it's rusting again already.

As has already been said, if you want to stop your 4x4 rusting, buy a Japanese one. :(

Shell Ensis PW 265
Wax film solvent deposit
Shell Ensis PW 265 is a solvent deposited, water displacing, wax film corrosion
preventive.

Designed by Shell for North Sea oil rigs, used by both the UK/US military. Excellent stuff, actually forces water/moisture out of the metal, and seeps through welds/joints etc.

Costs £90 for 20L drum (minimum buy), will do loads of chassis and anything else tht's metal.
Ensis PW 265 is £75 plus VAT (17.5%) for 20 litres. Delivery charges are free for over 40 litres, or orders under this amount would be £10 plus 17.5% VAT. Delivery time is about 3-5 working days, subject to stock availability.

Please feel free to give out my telephone number 01432 374606, for lubricant and fuel orders if you want to.

I am normally in the office Monday to Wednesday 9.15am until 5.30pm (lunch between about 1pm and 2pm). If you need any further assistance, please let me know.

Best Wishes Kerri Murray

Quoted, because I'm bound to need it sooner rather than later.

Waxoil the chassis box sections inside, and underseal the rest of it. Do it on a warm day.

Job Done.

Yep that's what I've decided ta, it seems I will need to buy an applicator of some description to fire the waxoyl into the chassis

just don't buy any car made with any steel in it an it won't rust,
job sorted.
oh it looks like a citreon 2cv then:eek:

to apply the waxoyl, doesnt the chassi neet to be really, really clean?
because if there's only a bit of dirt, that will eat away?

or is it the underseal?

I know with one of them the chassi has to be spotless and with the other one it doesnt matter if its really well clean.
