Right same old thread sorry but can someone tell me the proper fix for hot start problem or the best ebay kit as my 99 dhse has hot start problem and is drinking diesel like a fish

Fuel injection pump timing needs reseting
it happens when the timing chain gets worn and streches slightly knocking the pump timing out a few mm

Has this ever worked though, never seen anyone report back and say they have fixed the timing and it now starts up fine??? could have happened, but like I say never seen anyone to confirm this actually happened and worked ( I have a hot fix on mine)

If it's drinking diesel, you need more than a hot start fix
Adjusting the pump does help with hot starting I had a new pump fitted and had a oil weap from the o ring on timing cover to fuel pump face so fitted a new on got pump timing slightly out would start fine from cold but when hot lots of cranking eventually got pump correct and it starts on the button.

I'm still not convinced the slack chains affect the hot starting when I had my pump refurbished my Chains were so worn they had eaten the tensioners away yet it started hot of cold .but the tools are cheap and its easy to do with a dial gauge adapter tool for the gauge and a injector nut crows foot spanner .
a timing pin sprocket remover not needed as your only sliding the pump in its brackets , if adjusting the pumps akwYs set the disk with the pump turning towards the engine .

It just seemed strange as it was always good on diesel until it started to struggle to start when warm. But also sometimes if I am cruising at 60-70 mph the revs flutter a little 200-300 rpm

You need to be looking for a fuel leak. Spill pipes, injection pump. Also check function of in tank pump. Change fuel filter. What you describe at speed is typical of fuel starvation.

You can empty the ashtray that is an easy thing to do. But i doubt it will sort your problem out. Complex machines sometimes have complex problems.

Whats not easy about leak off pipes, filter or in tank pump? All easy to check and the first 2 are easy to replace, pump is not too bad either.
