If the engine hasn't had any air flow (eg high idle revs), the slam panel should be hot. the manifold glows red hot when you rev at stand still.

The mid-engined k-series cars have an engine bay fan as well as rad fan, both controlled by same type NTC sensors, but kick in at different temperatures.

Disconnect the brown sensor when you have started the engine, if the fans come on.............all is normal

LR cocooned the engine with the fibreglass undertray, it's part of the problem, I've modded mine with a simple air scoop and I run the IRD hoses disconnected.............permanently!

Ahh the 1275, preferred the 1293 engine in the old school minis myself.

I have owned two k-series cars for the last ten years................kind of entitles me to an an informed and educated opinion dont you think

This is coming from the man who thinks the temp sensor on the 1.8 is on the inlet pipe

Thanks I'll try the fans and the fibreglass tray, thaty sounds good as I never saw or heard them come on yet despite the frying pan syndrome ---- however, can you tell me what the LRD hoses are and what the dis/advantages of disconnecting them are? Thanks again.

The slam panel is very hot after a normal run, not taking it over 4000 rpm. Is that 'normal'?

Sorry - another question. That's what you get when you think about nothing else.....any chance you could share a pic or perhaps a better description of the air scoop as I think that seems a good idea with my frying pan....also did you just use fibreglass to construct it? thanks!

Very useful info thanks - seems my Flander is OK. I was worried cos after a drive I can't get the fan to come on. Engine bay is stinking hot too. Temp guage sits halfway. Spent ages checking it over and head scratching. Fans come on with a/c so knew they worked.
