Hostility towards Defender owners?

One of our family members in the UK said that we should be careful considering this vehicle since a lot of people are becoming more and more hostile towards defenders owners because of the high emissions.

Load of rubbish, they sound incredibly naive and don't really know what they are talking about. Defenders get respect, mercs and beamers and porches and things that claim to be 4x4 and run on vast quantities of petrol get a hard time.

OK you might get the odd complete fool who will give you a hard time, I have never had this yet - I have only heard from other LR owners and usually the person having a moan drives a brand new car and replaces it every 3 years and thinks they are gods gift to the world.

I have a 90 and a Disco, no one has ever given me any trouble, I even know some people who are overly green in my book and actually like them.

Anyway, not that it matters, if you want to drive a merc or bmw 4x4 then go right ahead, the C02 climate change is a load of rubbish anyway.

Ratty sounds like you NEED to get on your neigbours side, offer to paint there houses run them some where anything so they keep an eye out for your Landy

Speaking as an American living in the UK that recently purchased a 110, I've hand nothing but waves and smiles. Everyone loves a Defender, especially old ones. Plus parking isn't that bad, but I haven't tried parallel parking on a steep hill...

Go for it!

I've not had any hostile vibes (yet!). A few waves from other defender owners in the country.

I've never had any hostility when driving me landy. If anything it's the opposite. People always let me in at T junctions, motorway slipways etc. You get a bit of respect from HGV drivers too.

Often catch so called 'greenies' at work slaggin off 4x4's etc, but they never do - towards a defender as everyone sees them as genuine, rather than pretend/pretentious.
The long life also shuts em up, as the landy will still be running even when current new cars are recycled into razor blades.

As regards parking, the 110 aint the nimblest, but it's not really any harder than an average estate car. The only thing to watch for are the overhead barriers on some car parks.
