I never got around to it and suffice to say it has been another winter of clunking noises. The weather should warm soon and it will disappear.

hi all just had the same on my freelander turned out to be the anti roll bar had moved over by an inch towards the off side was hitting the bottom of the strut making terrible noise just like the one you have described.took 10 mins to fix now a very happy bunny
