Hi,
I am needing to change various bushes around my 90, I don't want poly bushes. Has anyone made a press using a bottle jack or similar?
I have previously made a press for making cider using a similar theory. (The cider was awful by the way)
Any pictures or plans greatly received.
Thanks.

Not hard to make a bottle jack press,a square of steel the jack fits in with enough room for the item you are working on and space for the old bush to come out, just remember the large forces involved. Look up bottle jack press on google.

Lots of info about this.

I have done mine a couple of times over the years (had the 90 for 15-years so only to be expected).
First time was removing the original bushes, holesaw & hacksaw had the old bushes out in next to no time. To fit the new bushes I just made sure all surfaces were clean & lubricated and then tapped them in using a spacer of the correct diameter (remember you want to push on the outer sleeve, not the inner one). If you can locate some steel tubing in the correct sizes that will be idea or failing that a selection of sockets will do. Get them misaligned or mark the lip then you will damage them but with everything clean & aligned they went in without any real fuss.
Next time was replacing the OE bushes with Bearmach polyurethane ones, these are not split like Polybushes but didn't need a spacer so a vice is ideal, the inner sleeve is then pressed in afterwards.

Just watch out what you do with it.
I almost took me head off when the bush come out. It shot out missed my head by 6inches then went 20ft in the air & missed my head by 6 inches again as it landed.

Try the threaded rod technique first (google it), is a lot safer... or just pop the parts to a local garage and let them do it, a press can be lethal if it lets go!!

Probably abit bigger than what your thinking but it is home made ;)

That does not look homemade, we had a similar one in the maint shop when i worked at gkn!

Haha well we made it ourselves anyway ;) main lift ram from a big hiab and big bits of heavy steel. I believe this is MK 4 all the ones before broke but this has been going at least 10 years and we haven't found anything that we can't push out yet ;)

Threaded bar, sockets and a couple of bits of plate with holes in to stop the nuts being pulled into the socket's square drive.

Plenty of grease on the threads and no problems!
