hmmmm Disco or Rangie?,,,

... that is the question

Pig and the frontera are going to be sold (boohoo

on the former but yay

on the latter) and i'm 'allowed'

to choose either a rangie or a disco

what are the commonest faults to look out for with either of them, i guess i'll be looking at 1996-1998 reg. won't be doing off roading as we just don't have time but but will be used for towing caravan and visiting farm every day.
thoughts please guys

Discovery for sure! on that year range rover wise youre going to belooking at p38's and to be brutally honest 95% of them are ****e! Discovery wise you'll be able to get yourself a really tidy 300tdi for decent amounts

Just watch out for rotten boot floors sills and wheel arches they suffer really badly on these areas. Engine wise the 300tdi is fairly bullet proof aslong as its been serviced well, watch out for cambelt changes

The clutch arms have a habit of punching a hole through themselves resulting in a new arm and most likely a new clutch whilst the gearbox is off

:5biagree: If you thought "Pig" was a handful to keep on the road, then you definatley don't need a a P38.
Very nice they are but at a huge cost.

Yeh, late 300 Discovery will fill the need nicely.

Try and find a jap import one, they tend not to have any rot or its only just started so easy to sort, and they tend to be a higher spec as well.

I picked up a top of the range 300 on a 96 plate for £2k last year, 44k on the clock and rot free.

Agreed with the above in general, but there are a few good Rangie P38s about - the simple ones. 2.5 BMW diesels are much more reliable than the V8s, better mpg as well. Air suspension is nice but on troublesome in the long run. So if you can, get one with a coil spring conversion. In this form they're comfy, pretty reliable and classy.

300 Tdi Discovery probably be the most practical choice though.

if i ended up with a ****e P38 i think hubs would shoot me lol, he already says Pig should just have her own bank account so he can pay his wages direct to her

Nearly sold her to a parcel force guy 10 mins ago

haven't even advertised her yet, only probs was he was a bit on the ermm... large size and couldn't fit behind the wheel:doh:
