:) Just to introduce myself, a new member, and on my 9th. L/Rover, a '98 diesel Freelander.
I have owned four 11a's, one of which was a Steve Parker V6 with ford c3 auto, a 109" six cylinder, a '71 Rangie, two 300tdi Discos, so i'm a bit of a fan.:D
I'm a lorry driver and a caravanner, so i'm hated by most people:mad:
Look forward to talking to you all.

Welcome Fredlander :)
First Freelander eh? How do you find it compared to the other Land Rovers you've had? I'm on my first Land Rover and it's been a real pig recently. Still love it though, especially when it's going and not in the garage ;)

All cars have their "niggles", and the more clever cars are getting with their toys, the more trouble to expect.
None of my "series" LRs gave me any trouble, nor the Rangie, this was despite using them as everyday transport, and trialling them at w/ends.
Strangely enough, both the Disco's were trouble, one had a head gasket go, the other the fuel pump packed up, both quite expensive jobs, and neither of these were off roaded:rolleyes:
I then went onto a Mitsubishi Pajero 2.8, on this the fuel pump seals failed luckily under warranty, that was a £600 bill for the dealer.
While the Mitsy was a superb towcar, its lust for diesel was unacceptable.....20mpg, and 16/17mpg when towing my c/van.
I have always liked the look of the Freelander, and read many different comments, so when this one turned up, a good old basic one, with one owner, 59k miles and full service history,AND in epsom green, i thought i would give one a go, and make my own mind up.
I have only done about 500 miles in it in 2 weeks, but so far, i love it, and i'm getting about 35mpg. Only time will tell, and when i start towing the c/van (1500kgs.)
I'm sure iwill keep you all informed, and post some pictures.

Nice one Mark;) , so what problems have you had? mechanical or build quality?
That sort of MPG is ok if you have the power, but mine was a diesel, and a swb, I will try and get some piccies of mine today, its also a station wagon..........and its snowing:D

Mechanical problems with mine. Starter motor packed up first then the head gasket blew. Hope to pick her up tomorrow some time. Lets hope the snow doesn't settle until then ;)
Oh, the only other problem I have is the boot lite doesn't work. Well it works if connected but won't turn off so I disconnected it. That doesn't bother me though, I don't spend much time in the boot ;)
