I'm new on this particular forum but have been a Land Rover owner for almost 20 years, and a huge fan of the classic car scene generally. My wife and I are both petrol heads who met through the classic car scene, and I'm already a member of several classic car forums, MGOC, Range Rover Register, Jaguar Owners' Club and Jaguar Enthusiast club, (I'm an administrator on one of them) and also the Rover SD1 club, though that car has gone now...

I got told to sod off until I had introduced myself on the forum after asking for ideas on a problem I have no clue about... fair one!! So here goes...

My wife has the one and only car in our fleet you'd call recent or modern... a 2004 Freelander TD4, and she owns a 1969 Daimler Sovereign 4.2 as well. I also have an 1965 MGB, mine since 1985, and I am about half way through a body restoration on my Series III 109 safari, I've owned this one for 14 years but laid her up for about five years after a spectacular MOT failure (the word "Chassis" says it all, as many of you will have experienced...)

My very first experience of driving Land Rovers was in the forces (of course) and the first Landie I owned a Series II 109 pickup, which I traded against my current 109 Safari as I wanted the 10+ seater, being involved with the Cadets as I was then.

My pride and joy is my 1979 Range Rover Classic 2-door, which spent it's first year in the Leyland Exhibition Collection and was on 1980 motor show stand at Earls Court. It's next owner had it for 29 years before I bought it last year... the car is still only showing 55,000 miles after 31 years, has had some Overfinch engine tweaks and uprated running gear in its time but still looks like it's a year old or less... and drives like any modern Range Rover, (apart from thirst! ) ... a real one-off.

My daily use car is one of the last Series I Disco (so I am told), a 1998 Discovery V8 GS auto. It just goes and goes... it's leaked a bit from rain inside recently but that wasn't an unknown problem and easily fixed.

So we've currently got four land Rovers in all (only three on the road) plus two other classic cars, and I reckon it'll take about another six months to get the 109 finished and back in service. It may yet finish up with a Rover V8 engine I bought for the Rover SD1 (now sold to fund some outside help on my 109) rather than it's original 2.25... I have changed my mind on this twice already having driven other people's examples of both recently and it's a tough call, any other views on this out there are always well received! ;)

Up until recently our Freelander has been trouble-free but now have a few issues that I'd rather sort out myself if I can, as the more spent on labour rates, especially main dealer rates, the less gets spent on the other cars, So I've finally joined this forum as well as the others as i have limited experience of cars under 25 years old today! :)
