Just had a reply from the Gaydon heritage centre
http://www.heritage-motor-centre.co.uk

The date as printed on my MOT form is the date the model was first released,
my Series3 was confirmed as being built in August 1974 so no free tax disc
for me. Tcha! Turns out it's a problem caused by the new computerised MOT
system.

Right, 6 months of tax and straight onto eBay with it.

Austin Shackles. www.ddol-las.net my opinions are just that
Beyond the horizon of the place we lived when we were young / In a world
of magnets and miracles / Our thoughts strayed constantly and without
boundary / The ringing of the Division bell had begun. Pink Floyd (1994)

Land Rovers can be pretty expensive to run, and £175 is relatively little compared to some bills.

I would be loathe to chuck in a good landy justbecause it wasn't tax exempt. Better a good Landy that costs you £175/year in road fund licence than a stinker that is tax free but a lemon.

Cheers

Just the first year or so of production, I snagged a '72 SIII a couple of
months back, now I've got to spend all the tax savings on repairs and
replacements.

If you don't know who's watching the watchmen.

Mine's 1971, LWB number 421. however, it's awaiting the attachment of a new
front chassis leg, among other things.
