There's just 4 things that causes a single HDC light.

Throttle cable slack should be about 10mm.

The throttle pedal at rest sensor needs testing.

The first gear switch needs testing.

The reverse gear switch is tested every time reverse is selected.

Thanks @Nodge68.

1. I've added some slack to the cable, I'll measure later to be sure but I'd say there is roughly 10mm movement in the pedal before the throttle starts engaging.

2. My OBD2 diagnostics read the throttle position was 3.9% at rest, I'm not sure if this is correct.

3. I'm not sure how to check the 1st gear switch, is it a condinuiety test? Can it be condinuiety tested without taking it out the car? Is it the switch under the protective shielding at the bottom or the one above?

4. Reverse switch seems fine.

10mm slack at the pedal is fine.

You're reverse switch is ok, so can be ignored.

So that leaves the pedal at rest sensor. A simple continuity test is ok for that. If should snap from closed to open when the pedal is pressed.

The first gear switch again is a continuity test.

I've just thought. The HDC relay may also flag up a HDC! light if it's faulty.
