Hi guys,

Well my mrs is itching to start driving the freelander but wary of steep hills or drives I suppose. She is sacred if she is stuck on a gradient she won’t be able to accelerate forward (without risking going backwards).

Ever since I have the Freelander I haven’t ever used the HDC so unsure whether it helps her to move forward from stationary without the risk of going backwards?

Any suggestions will be welcomed :welcome2:

It only works on a steep down hill descent, it does not engage when going up hill as once you accelerate it switches the control off. It is a device to compensate for a low box (which uses engine braking to descend). It a funny feeling when you take your feet off the clutch and brake and just steer

You didn't say whether manual or auto box. Either way I would find a hill on a quiet road and let her practice hill starts to gain confidence.

And also practise FAILED hill climbs.

You're stuck on a hill - can't get up.

So. Handbrake on. Engine off. Into reverse. ENGAGE HDC. Release clutch.

Deep breath.

Take foot off brake. (You now have foot off everything)

Deeper breath.

Turn ignition.

Chunter back down the hill.

Cheers
