Disco 2 Hill Decent "Lights"

I have alternate warning lights coming and going. Top left of instruments, green "Hill Decent Light". It goes off and a bit later the bottom left amber "Hill decent " comes on. Coming and going alternatively ???
Wondering if this is the start of the Amigoes, or something else. Seem to remember something somewhere about a rear brake relay can cause this. Any thoughts?? One for sierrafery I think !!
 
Hi, more accurate description please, do you mean the the green and amber HDC warnings are coming on both alternatively while driving? or the green on only on self test then the amber is coming on and off alone? ... do you see all the 3 amigos on ignition self test?

The green and amber are coming on alternatively while driving. Amber came on last week then off and stayed off for a few days. Then yesterday green came on, but disappeared on turning ignition off and then on again . Whilst driving to work today the amber came on. I should mention the wife drives the Disco, so this info is partly hers.:oops:

I will check on that tonight. As said I don't drive it during the week. Its a 2001 model, so no, not facelift. Cheers again.

Just phoned the wife and she will check this for me soon.
 
Ok, give me the full info and i'll think about that.... the green one is strange cos it's not part of the fault warning protocol so might be some bad contact in the ECU or instrument pack's plug for both or a HDC switch missbehaviour, as first step (if the 3 amigos + all the SLABS related warnings if you have SLS) are working on self test unplug the HDC switch and leave it so for a drive to see if it helps or not...also would be good to know if there are any fault codes logged

Ok, wife just got back to me. All lights come on ignition and extinguish on start up. Except the "Green" HDC light now.
 
First of all unplug the HDC switch...if it's still there then it becomes more complicated cos measurements are involved, if you have RAVE and you can handle a multimeter i'll tell you what to measure while the lamp is on as we have to see if it's on cos it misses the voltage on the earth path from the ECU(that should extinguish it) or the ECU doesnt send the voltage if you see what i mean

The green lamp seems to be on permanently now. I have Rave and a multi meter but am useless with it. I going to mates at the weekend to run diagnostic on it. Will I wait till that's done and PM you when I have more info ? Thanks again. As usual your help is much appreciated.
 
Ok.....I've just been out and had a look at it . And to disconnect the switch. I have to confess that I have based this thread on second-hand info that I have been given by my wife. "There is a light on the dash" " what's it look like" " a wee car going down a hill" "that's the HDC light" and so on. You know how it goes. Well guess what. The HDC switch is in the on position. So that explains the green light being on. I don't know how long she has been running around with it like this as she says she didn't switch it on.:rolleyes:
 
Is it on with unplugged switch too? ... if it is unfortunately the tester might not help much in this case cos as i said the green warning is not part of the fault warning protocol and it's not supposed to be on without HDC being selected so there are two presumptions for that: a wiring issue as the voltage on the earth path doesnt reach the instrument pack to extinguish the lamp after the self check or ECU fault.... it can be an instrument pack fault too but that's highly unlikely even if possible...though as the amber warning made tricks too it would be good to check for corrosion in the SLABS ECU plug

I was writing while you posted and saw it after i posted.... wish i saw it before i wrote that whole theory:cool:....anyway i'm glad it was just that cos this one could have been dificult if it wasnt that easy(i didnt presume that HDC is actually selected that's why i insisted on the switch cos i hoped it's only a stuck contact in it):)

I wish I had actually gone and looked when she first told me. Sorry mate. I now have you on Speed Dial though as you are now my resident car Leckie expert. Thanks again mate. Let me know how you get on with your PAS box.
 
Ok, no worries... though there is something worrying here, the fact that the green HDC warning was constantly on not flashing means that the SLABS got a "transfer box in low" input otherwise it should have flashed to show that the condition of TB in low for HDC operation is not met, if it stood on with swicth depressed and the TB is in high there might be a problem with the hi-low swicth on the box, the hi-low input has no visible or audible feedback so better check that cos if the switch is stuck in low the ECU works on an addapted fuel map for low range but the gear being actually in high this can cause increased consumption and higher EGTs and albeit it would be more responsive and "nervous" this is not healthy for the engine
