Hi all,
My freelander 1 td4 51 plate has a fuel leak around the high pressure fuel pump area.
Is there any way to to remove it without having to take half the engine bay out. Or just leave it to the garage.
I'm hoping this is the problem with lack of speed uphill.
Any thoughts would be much appreciated.

You need the special sprocket retainer/ puller, as you can't remove the pump without it. You also need a large Allen socket, but I forgot the size.

The rest of the job is pretty straightforward, having done it a few times, I can change the HP pump in a couple of hours without rushing the job.

As John states above its about a couple of hours work, remove the manifold and starter motor, the special tool is in the link below, 17mm large Allen key or a nut from any injector line will do.

You could also use a 17mm bolt and nut use loctite threadlocker then saw the rest of the bolt off and use that.

Hopefully the photos give you a general idea, the engine will have to be raised a little, using a jack from underneath & also removing the engine lower tie bar.

Special tool.

It could be just the Regulator O-rings in which case not need to remove the whole HPFP.

Removal of the regulator only and replace O-rings with these below
