Hi, I've a nice tidy 2008 Disco 3 SE which is great to drive but will occasionally just flip out and show every fault it can find, lower the suspension, HDC Fault, Limited gears, engine fault, Limp home the dash is lit up like a Christmas tree. Turn it off and restart and its fine, it likes to do this a couple of times a week on average but did it 3 times today. I'm being told it's the high pressure fuel pump and it's going to be over a £1000 to fix with a new belt. The strange thing is the car runs great, loads of power and acceleration so how can the fuel pump be knackered? and why does it bring up so many unrelated faults, Is there anything else I should be looking at?
To be fair the car has done 170k so it's probably due a major expense.

Cheers Ian

@gstuart is your man on these things ;) - however, what from I have read on here - the appearance of myriad faults is more likely alternator / battery related - have you checked these ?

I'd seriously doubt that a faulty HP pump will cause this error.

It's more likely to be the turbo wastegate actuator, or the wastegate being stiff in its bush.

Before throwing away £1000 on a garages say so, why not buy a Gap Diagnostics IID BT, and find out exactly what is up with it.

As said, the DII is basically an essential tool if you own a D3/4. ;)

You are going to need live data, ie fuel rail pressure etc when it faults.

Do not forget if the lpfp is not delivering enough fuel to the hpfp, the sensor will log low pressure on the hpfp, but that wont be the cause of the error.

The IID is expensive at 400 quid, but they sell all day long 2nd hand for 300 quid, so the first time you use it, it has technically paid for itself.
I have no idea what ir costs to get codes read at a garage thses days, cant be any less than 50 quid?

Local JLR garage charge £150 plus vat to read codes, £170 per hour plus vat for labour

plus 1 what others are saying , u really need diagnostics, otherwise ur wasting ur time and indeed the gap iid pays for itself very quickly

make a note of the codes, clear them , drive up the road then re read the codes to see what comes back

More of us now owning D3s and learning all the time of there glitches etc

Plse let us know what codes u get , also having a multimeter is also very handy to own , inc ones that have a clamp feature

I've learned enough about the D3 to turn down one I've just been offered for £750!!

I know I probably have bought it, but at this moment in time, I simply don't have time to do anything with it.:(
