Well it can't be bad so it must be a combination of the other 2. I've always thought that with the right awareness of the possible issues and timely maintenance freelanders can be reliable. If it's a petrol it's nothing short of a miracle. :)

td4 all the way i just use it every day on and off road apart from a few niggles its been bullit proof which is more than i can say for my last few landys

ditto with my L-series.

what speed do you average, i think if you keep the speed down a vcu will last for well over 100,000 miles easily.

I'd say you have had good fortune thus far; though, I personally, would look to replace the VCU and bearings sometime soon as a matter of course...That said my Td4 has done 137,000 miles and I think it was used for towing by it's previous owner(s).

Bravo though!

couple times a week try to take it round to the red line and flat out just to keep things nice and clear its just used and abused every day:D

Engine wise I can vouch for their longlivity - I had the same engine in my Rover 75 that I ran to 225,000 miles. It was still perfectly reliable when I traded it in for my Audi A4.

In many ways I wish I still had it as there was nothing at all wrong with it but I couldnt keep it due to my company car allowance age criteria at the time. I have moved jobs since and dont get an allowance any more but stuck with the A4 for a bit longer!
