high mileage checks

hi

my freelander is coming up to doing 175,000 miles.

it is a 2002 TD4 3 door auto.

when i bought the FL it came with a full LR service history.

in the book it has service A and B.

i contacted the pervious garages to ask them if any major parts have been replaced, ie VCU , ancillery belts etc, they advised me due to the data protection act it will not be possible to tell me anything.

are there any parts that i should replace due to the high mileage, it runs nicely and starts on the button, my main concern is i dont want to wait until it breaks and causes alot more damage to other components, ie a VCU etc.

ive done the EGR bypass, and got a BMW crankcase kit and a synergy 2 which i need to fit.


thanks as always guys, if its a case of just giving it a full service every year thats fine, but just looking out to keep my FL up and running.

I know its only a car but admire the FL and wish to keep it long term as i imagine i wouldnt get much for it due to its mileage.

Due to data protection they can't tell you if a vehicle has been repaired? That's crap all they can't divulge is personal information relating to someone, not machinery!

as mart says that is a load of rubbish. they cant tell you who has had what done but they can tell you what has been done

If its running sweetly leave well alone, if it aint broke, dont fix it. Just enjoy it.

If you can then go to the garage as it's harder for them to brush you aside if you are stood there, as others have said the data protection act covers PERSONAL data, they can tell you about the servicing details as long as they don't reveal anything about the person that requested/paid for it.

Would be worth doing the oils more frequently, but otherwise carry on as you are.

Check your vcu as per the video below. It's not perfect, but it's the best test we have to date. Peace of mind and all that...

Quite right! The previous owner's info is protected (name, address, etc) but the history of the car is not. Every time I buy a car I email the dealers in the service book asking for copy invoices and service records. They always send them but with the customer's details blanked out.

You just need to ask again!

thanks guys, i actually went down there and took my log book and service record together with ID, spoke to him and they point blank refused to tell me anything.

I said to him all i want to know has any major items been replaced as i dont want to spend money and replace them if they have already been done,

he still refused me, i also contacted the previous owners they just ignored me.

it made me suspious, but this afternoon ive started to do a list of things to check and will defently do the VCU check. sorry but im partially disabled stuggle a little on certain jobs, would a tippex test be suffice

once ive done/replaced or checked will write the date on the list,

im going to thanks to great advice change the oil every 6000 miles

ive had to give up about getting previous info just made me feel there hiding something.

i did before i bought the car done a full HP and theft check,

A stamp in the book means nothin it seems these days! you are lucky if the the oil and filter are done ive had my td4 for 15 months and have serviced it my self with help from L Z members i know its been done then! if you can D I Y good luck

im doubting the service book stamp myself as i found front disc pads down to the disc,just after i bought it oil filter very sludged, as it was a private sale sold as seen.

have created a list and will just go through it bit by bit and agree that at least then i will know its done correctly
