have approx £15k to get a TD6 L322 but most in that price range seem to be 90k miles and above, is it stil la safe bet to buy one with this kind of mileage?

Anything i should look out for in particular because of the mileage?

Thanks in advance

glen

there is no difference in buying a 90k to a 50k range rover,, they all break down

only joking mate... look for a full service history.. condition of car... find out what it has been used for... get a warranty and a mechanical report..and make sure everthing works.. theres no cheap fixes.. if its had work done findout who done it..

put your location on and some one local may even know the car your looking at and offer more help and advice

make sure that all the recalls that landrover carry out free of charge have been done and documented.

I'll second that.
Paid £13.5k for my 2003 Vogue with 96k on the clock and it's had all the LR recall work done, including the transfer shaft replacement.
Also has had a new LR front diff & gearbox (£4.5k!!!) at around 75-80k, both seem to be a recurring faults on the earlier TD6's.
Got a real bargain with this one I reckon, I was the first to view and bought it on the spot. The guy's phone was red-hot for the next week until I finally got the cash together and picked it up and he could withdraw the advert.
Looked at loads which were real sheds, but this one looks and drives as sweet as you like, well worth the time browsing Auto Trader and driving miles to test drive candidates. Take my advice and shop around, and have an HPI check done. Well worth the £19.99 just for the peace of mind.

Cheers people, (except robp38 for the horror stories  haha)

tommo and del,
are there any particular recalls i should look for, to see if they've been done?

i assume you mean get a warranty from the garage i buy it from, but if i buy privately, i wont be able to get one will i?

by mechanical report do you mean take either a RR expert or aa vehicle inspector type with me? I'm guessing i can find experts over most of the country on here

I think QO41 is the really important one to look for. I believe it can get a bit costly if it's not done.
Check this thread for details, it's got a copy of the recall notice attached to it. A call to your local LR dealer with the chassis number should confirm if a particular car has had it done.

cheers bigdel

i phoned the dealer selling the one i like, in nottingham (Im in herts) and asked about the QO41 diff and prop splines and he just said 'the books stamped up full history as normal'

reckon this means it wasnt done, and now needs doing? Its a long way to go to view one i might get (only 3rd one ive viewed)

what about gearbox issues? heard they can be troublesome? He's offering a years warranty for £195 which sounds good to me, depending on what it covers

just had a brainwave (doesnt happen often)

will the dealer give me the registration AND chassis number of the RR over the phone? then i can phone RR and ask whats been done on it?

Also, what number would i phone to check with RR main dealers?

Thanks again

They should do there is nothing secret about the reg and VIN

Matt

If he's got nothing to hide then there's no reason for not giving you the info you require. Mine had a fully stamped up service book, but there was no mention of the recall work being done in there. Only checked after I bought it after reading the posts on the gearbox & transfer shaft issues.

cheers del, got the all clear, trader gave me the chassis and number plate, spoke to land rover and the flex drive shaft/prop recall (I think Q41), also they done these 2

A28
A121B

Anyone know what these are, and what for?

Thanks again
