Hello everyone.

I've just bough my 3rd freelander, my first petrol one.

It's a 1.8 petrol with 61k on the clock, head has been done.

Since I've got it it sometimes ticked over at around 1500 rpm.

Today I've changed the spark plugs and air filter, and taken the air idle valve off and sprayed it with some wd. It looked a bit dirty, I plugged it back in and switch the ignition on, and it opened slightly. Since putting it back on it now ticks over very nicely at 2000rpm, when going along you can feel the high tick over pulling him along! Is the valve caput or should I be looking up another tree?

5thanks

The IACV can stick open. Try giving it a couple of quick blasts of wd while the engine is running.
Alternatively you could have an air leak. A split servo diaphragm is a popular location for air to enter the engine unchecked.

Many thanks, when I took the valve off it was shut, when I plugged it in it was open slightly, I'll try the wd40 whilst it's running tomorrow.
