has anyone else done this?

Steve.

Are they actually HID's or just coloured bulbs?

Not being funny at all. It seems a great price for HID's but I understood that the HID's ran extremely hot so standard reflectors melted, and you had to have auto adjustable lamp levelling because they were too bright (something like that anyway.

Any thourghts on this would be appreciated because I have quite fancied HID's for some time but I understood the kits cost hundreds of pounds.

Real HID!!!

they work and look fantastic!

Just had another thought while I was laying in bed this morning (why I was thinking of this while laying in bed is beyond me), You have fitted HID's to the dipped beam, will that not sort of eliminate the need for the main beam since the HID's will be so much brighter.
Or does the shape of the dipped beam reflector mean you still get more light out of the main beam?
Or is it the case that both dipped and main beam bulbs should be replaced? Looking at the installation photo's, there isnt a lot of room left for more ballasts, relays and the like.

Sorry for the delay in replying!

The dipped beam is so much better! but for that little bit of extra distance the main beam helps. I'd like to at some point change the main and driving lamps to HID, but will have to save up a bit more dosh!

Hi Stownrow,

They look really good, like the bi-xenon pack that is optional on freelander 2. How difficult are they to fit, would my machanic be able to do them you think? What actually do you change just the bulbs or wiring as well, cos I have always toyed with the idea but never been able to get enough info about how the freelander looks and what it will effect i.e adjustable light beams.

Hi

Agree with everyone else they look spot on!! Just been on the ebay link and he reckons its a half hour job even for a beginner. I would describe my self as a beginners beginner. Is it easy or do you need basic car electrical knowledge. Cheers and I have to say again they do look very good.

Stownrow do you have any photos of your lights close up from the outside. I was wondering what the bulb looks like through the clear plastic lense?
