hi!!im new on here-so hello everyone.havent got a landy yet,but im off to look at a 1984 90 today.what do i need to be looking out for?:)

Of course if you're new to landies you won't have a clue what Flumps just said So I'll break it down for you.

Check chassis for rust especially rear crossmember and outriggers.
Check front bulkhead and footwells for rot. Poke with a screwdriver and tap to check for bodyfiller.

start the engine from cold and check for excessive smoke that doesn't clear up after a few minutes and remove the oilfiller cap and make sure there's no smoke coming out of the filler neck. Also check cap for white/creamy scum. a sure sign to walk away.
Take it for a test drive and make sure all the gears and hi/lo & difflock work smoothly and don't jump out of gear or clonk badly when changing gear. A little clunking is normal in all landies.
If the chassis and bulkhead are solid and the engine & tranmission are fine then everything else is cosmetics or easily fixed.

Oh and welcome to the Loony Zone by the way.

well id say luk all ova the chassis cos thi go everywhere,i reckon the worst spot is above the rear axle on the bottom edge of the curved part of the rails.

hi im a new new member i have a landrover 90. my first landy. and love it . if you just check the bulkhead and the rest of the stuff the members said you cant go wrong i have found my landy easy to work on and you can get lots of help to sort all them leaks and rattles at first you come across. this is my first landy always had old minis and learning as i go along. we are one big family. and remember to wave when you see one of us.

HI YAH! back. the joys of landys. just messing with starter motor. you got to be double jointed for this job ha! ha!. had my 90 8 months now love it! only car i've had that gives you a real buzz to drive. TOM TOM (gone home)

hi back! sorted that starter out. a couple of weeks ago outside in the ccccold trying to sort lose wires .with rain and tarp over me to keep dry. so got it in my works warehouse in the dry to do job. there was a wire hangin lose on the starter. and notice earth lead hangin lose from block. and it still started the last few days. (god only knows how) but on tuesday had to wagle the wires to get starter to go so had to get it sorted today. with my 90 i use it 7days a week and it only let me down once with needing a new battery at crimbo. not bad for 20 years old and been in the field for the last 7years on the farms. so see how we go .
